The Sky

The city lights fade out the black night sky
As the stars shine surely overhead
The sound of perpetual motion dins from the nearby highway
As the unknown and unnamed travelers head to destinations near and far

The midnight air is cool and the trees are asleep
The darkness is broken only by street lamps and the occasional
porchlight such as mine
And I can't help but think that the universe still persists
late in the evening

The night is quiet and peaceful
In a city of buildings and vehicles, lawyers and bus drivers
The night provides a comfort all it's own
A protective umbrella to hide under
A security blanket to keep me safe and warm

For all my travels the night stays the same
Only the accompanying orchestra changes
It may be the ocean, it may be the wind, it may be the sound of distant thunder
The stars will forever shine on this jaded canvas known as the sky
