The Longest Month
It all started with sunshine
Began with a smile
Rolling like waves on the beach
Flying and feeling free
Eyes open to beauty
Heart open to love
To see things that we believe
To feel the things that we see
I speak the truth with all it's ends
And feel the pain when truth is fiction
Silence covers me
A storm that I create
Relief as it settles inside me
And then the thunder
Distant then near as lightening appears
Dark clouds at 1000 feet
Lightning below then again
Empty confusion as rain falls
My heart collapses
Not once, but twice
Delivering us all to night
I am deep inside myself
I am quiet
I am alone
My eyes rain at will
We all begin our journey
Their journey is over
And share the sorrow with lights
Hope to the front, fear to the back
I feel rage in the restraint
We are together once and for all
Walk and see and feel
And consume to dull the pain
We scope the park as the sun rises
And I thank her for her kindness
But the tears can't make the faces go
And the sun rises over Williamsburg
Soon the road calls again
Down, down, down we go
To feel the pain once more
Back to normality as much as it can be
And the rain gets farther but still lies there
Behind a cloud, touch it if we dare
Out into the night where the star is only one
To consume evermore til the rise of the sun
And who I am is of no consequence
I'll be who I need and need no one
As no one will really know me
The ugly falsehood beats my heat like a drum
As I end the longest month.
