Portrait Of A New Millenium
where are our hearts in this time
do we even think to ask ourselves
how long it's been since we expressed
a true feeling
connected to the world by our handsets
and tiny screens with little buttons
and wires spanning the earth
as connected as that is how do we
express things in our small world
around us then
i look and see that people have
forgotten the small pleasures in favor
of the grandiose and distant things
that lack true reality in our worlds
we will gladly exchange hours of a life
for the next gadget or the raise that
we'll make ourselves need by overindulging
and to protect everything by gaining greater
power and status is the norm rather than
the exception today
so how do we temper the drive in people
that separates them from their feelings
and propels them toward some distant
unreachable destination
